A surfboard that was stolen from an Australian surfer 40 years ago was returned to him recently. Peter Gilson said that his mother bought the surfboard for 1,800 Australian dollars in the late 1970s but it got stolen. And now four decades after the incident, Gilson has been reunited with his surfboard. He had taken repairing vintage surfboards later when he spotted a picture of his unique board online.

IANS quoted Gilson as saying, "To be honest, at the time, being a young kid, I didn't really give it too much thought but as the years went by it occurred to me how much of a sacrifice my mum had made to get me that board."

Someone had taken and posted a picture of it from a surfing memorabilia gallery in Western Australia. Gilson contacted the gallery owners and told them about it belonged to him years ago. He showed an old photo of the surfboard he owned which "probably passed through many sets of hands over the years".

After learning Gilson's story, the current owner decided to send the surfboard to him free of charge. The owner's gesture has been widely appreciated. Vintage surfboards are quite an attraction for surf lovers and can fetch great prices.
