Thought live-in relationships were what only new-age couples opted for? Then you have to meet this Udaipur couple who have been living together for the past 48 years. So, after living together for nearly five decades, the duo decided to get married on Tuesday.

80-year-old Devadas Kalasua married his 76-year-old live-in partner Magdu Bai in the presence of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The grand wedding was held Pargiyapada village of Madri panchayat in Jhadol Phalasiya block of Udaipur.

Kalasua, although married had eloped with Magdu Bai from the neighboring village. He then brought her to his home where he lived with his first wife Champa Bai. Later, Champa Bai shifted to Phalasiya with her children, while Kalasua continued to live there with Magdu Bai. Both the wives were on talking terms.

However, the relationship was not socially accepted 'Nyayvata' as local rituals necessary for solemnising a married had not happened. According to The Times of India, Kalasua's son Arjunlal, a schoolteacher decided to initiate their parent's marriage to find acceptance in the eyes of the society.

The son then asked her mother's relatives about the marriage to which they agreed. Bhanjana was then performed wherein the groom's party went to bride's home with a procession. The marriage happened there with feast and guests. All tradition customs, practices and necessary rituals took place at the wedding.

The community only recognised the relationship after the wedding which happened with the consent of the families. Devadas' first wife also gave her consent but could not participate in the wedding citing ill health.
