And thanks to social media, we were able to see a little Kashmiri girl sharing an all-important message for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene. The video captures her rowing a small boat at the beautiful Dal Lake in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Her small yet significant act caught the eyes of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi who hailed the girl’s efforts and called it a fine example of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, clean India campaign.

PM Modi shared a video on his official Twitter handle writing, ‘Hearing this little girl will make your morning even better! Great passion towards Swachhata.’ Indeed, her sweet words are truly magical. Holding an oar with both her hands, the girl is trying to row the boat and give out the important message on cleanliness.

She is talking about how Dal Lake known for its beauty and tranquillity is getting dirty and it is people’s duty to keep it clean. The short clip shows the amount of dirt and crap she along with her guardian have collected during the drive. At such a tender age, she is mature and understanding to know about the significant topic of cleanliness of our surrounding. It is also super cute of her to say, ‘Ab Main Bachon Ko Kehti Hun…’

Dal Lake is called the ‘Jewel in the crown of Kashmir’ or ‘Srinagar’s Jewel’. It is the second largest lake in the state and is an integral part of tourism and recreation plans. It was built during the reign of Mughal Emperor Jehangir and continues to be one of the main attractions in Kashmir. Due to the serious case of eutrophication, a growth of plants and algae and due to the biomass load has led to problems. However, the Government of India is investing 11 billion rupees to restore the Dal Lake to its original spectacular opulence.
