The Naples Zoo in Southwest Florida is naming their three male cubs which were born in May this year and the public is invited. Yes, Naples zoo officials have created a Facebook page where people can submit the names they want to give the lion cubs. After the voting, the finalists will be voted. And guess what! The person whose name will be selected for the lion cubs will gift a prize package along with a zoo membership. Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens took to Facebook saying, "Our keepers have narrowed down the list of lion cub name submissions. Now it's time to vote for your favourite finalist names: http://napleszoo.org/lioncubs. Voting is open through Sunday, July 7. We'll announce the cubs' names on Monday, July 8!" On May 14, first-time mother, Shani, a 13-year-old African lion, gave birth to one cub May 13 and two cubs. Talking about the lion cubs, Liz Harmon, director of animal programs was quoted as saying, "We've been waiting for these cubs for a long time." Naples is known for letting the public name animal cubs born in the zoo. They had hosted a public naming contest for Bakari, the critically endangered Eastern bongo calf which was born in January. The zoo officials had then revealed that Masamba was paired with 10-year-old Masamba by the Association of Zoos and Aquarium's Species Survival to create sustainable populations for threatened and endangered species.
