Kerala MP TN Prathapan is reaping praises on social media for asking people to not offer him bouquets at public events. He has also requested people to not gift him shawls at meeting and gatherings. Instead, the Congress MP wants to be gifted books which can be donated to the library in his native village. Prathapan tweeted saying, "Decided to not receive any bouquets in public/private programs as an MP. Instead, give me a book! #read." His gesture was quick to be applauded by social media users who said that more politicians should adopt the practice.

Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram, Shashi Tharoor took to Twitter praising the Prathapan progressive step. Tharoor tweeted saying, "It's a great idea. I asked for something similar in my first year as M.P. but have up when no one followed my request. Organisers give bouquets somewhat mechanically!"
