A Kerala man's driver's licence was suspended for allowing his five-year-old daughter driver his scooter on a national highway in Ernakulam district. A video showing the family of four on the scooter has gone viral with a little girl driving it. The clip shows the parents and another child sitting as pillion riders while the child stands in the leg space holding the handles. The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) cancelled Shibu Francis' license for letting his minor daughter drive the vehicle on the busy highway in Edapally.
A car driver on the highway captured the dangerous scene and uploaded it on social media. The man also reportedly reprimanded the family for attempting such a stunt. As per reports, the incident happened on Sunday.
Allegedly Shibu said that he right arm was paining and hence let his daughter drive. According to a report in The Hindu, after the video went viral, Transport Commissioner K. Padmakumar who referred it to Ernakulam Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Jojy P. Jose. Mattancherry RTO Shaji Madhavan was then alerted about the incident. Thereafter the registration number of the scooter was traced and found out that the vehicle was registered under the name of one Ramachandran, who said that Shibu used his vehicle.

The report quoted Jose as saying, "We served a notice summoning him [Shibu] for a hearing during the course of which he admitted to the mistake and attributed it to ignorance. Shibu’s licence was suspended at once after the hearing considering the seriousness of the offence."
His licence was cancelled under Section 19 (1(f)(h) of the Motor Vehicles Act which lets authorities disqualify someone from holding a licence and Section 21(18) of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules. The notice said the decision was taken in view of the seriousness of the violation and the direction of the Supreme Court committee on road safety.
