Thiruvanthapuram, January 19: A Hindu couple tied the knot at Cheruvally Muslim Jamaat mosque in Alappuzha's Kayamkulam on Sunday. The Muslim Jamaat solemnised the marriage of the Hindu couple, Anju and Sharath, after the girl's mother was unable to raise money for the wedding. The marriage was performed as per Hindu rituals. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan shared the picture of the marriage on his official Facebook handle in which he congratulated the couple. He called the event an example of communal harmony. Finance Minister of Kerala Isaac Thomas shared picture of Muslim and Hindu clerics breaking bread together. In his Twitter post, he wrote, "See how Kerala is different! Sharath & Anju were married on the premises of local mosque in Alleppey district. Anju`s father had passed away recently. Mother approached the Jamath Committee for support. It was officiated by a Hindu priest. And then everyone enjoyed a grand feast."

Nujumudeen Alummoottil, secretary of Cheruvally Jamaat committee, told PTI that the committee also gifted ten sovereigns of gold and Rs two lakh to the bride. According to reports, around 1,000 guests from both the communities attended the marriage. Vegetarian food was arranged for guests.
