The incident took place at 5 pm on Tuesday, and the video has turned viral on social media. The protestors vandalised the car with sticks and iron rods. The commuters who were inside the car, managed to step out just in time before the Kanwariyas started their attack. The hostile men even tried to set the car on fire and hurled stones at the couple, who had taken shelter at a nearby shop.

In the video, police can be seen, but no action was taken to curb them from further damaging the car, and creating a commotion right in the middle of the road. There has been no formal complaint against the kanwariyas, reportedly police are trying to convince the couple to record their statements so that a proper legal action can be initiated. Reportedly, in another incident, a Kanwariya died after he was attacked with a liquor bottle by a fellow Kanwariya, who was drunk, while they were on their way to Haridwar.
