Dire Bollywood fans got all mushy with the film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam that released in 1999. Now a plot that seemed limited to a film script was actually enacted in real life in Kanpur's Sanigwan village. A man named Sujit, helped his wife Shanti, who he was married for three months to reunite with her lover Ravi and even get them married. Wow! That's something and deserves all credit because Sujit managed to do it with co-operation of all the three families!

The story goes back to February when Sujit, from Sanigwan village got married to Shanti a resident of Shyam Nagar area of the city. The two were married according to traditions but not at will. After their marriage, Shanti frequently visited her parents' house. She would give some reasons or the other when asked to come back. This caused a doubt in Sujit's mind. A source close to the family said, "It was when Shanti did not return for quite long, Sujit approached her and asked her about the cause of not returning home. Initially, she skipped Sujit's queries, but finally one day she broke down and confided with him that she was in love with a Lucknow guy and was married to Sujit against her will." Sujit then decided to take matters into his own hand, at least for the happiness of his wife.

Sujit then started approaching the families and tried convincing them. He met with his wife's lover Ravi, who too confessed his love for Shanti. Seeing this, Sujit then decided to get them married. He approached the local police for help. All of them gathered on May 30 at the Hanuman temple in Sanigwan area of Chakeri for the wedding. This wedding definitely saw a lot of guests. Sujit had his doubts initially and was a bit disturbed as well. But he accepted the reality and worked for the greater good. Things like these are not really common and coming from a rural area, it is commendable. "It was a sweet and lovely gesture from Sujit's side, one will never forget him for long," said the police officials. We quite agree.
