Jaspal Inder Singh Kalra, popularly known as Jiggs Kalra passed away at the age of 72 on June 4. The cremation will be held on Thursday at the Lodhi crematorium.  The man who was known for bringing a new culinary wave in India was also an author, and columnist. Born on May 21, 1948, Jiggs Kalra earlier worked as a journalist, but later shifted his career into the world of food in the 1980s. He is survived by his son Zorawar Kalra who runs Massive Restaurants Private Limited.

As the news of his death spread, people took to Twitter remembering the man and his efforts in revolutionising India's food industry. Jiggs Kalra passes away at 72:

Food critic and EasyDiner co-founder Vir Sanghvi took to Twitter saying, "Goodbye old friend. The great Jiggs Kalra who did so much to rediscover the lost secrets of Indian food and who gave chefs their rightful place in the sun goes off to that great kitchen in the sky to ensure that the gods eat his wonderful food. There will never be another Jiggs."

Jiggs Kalra had not been keeping well for quite some time. Last month, his son Zorawar had taken to Instagram saying that his father celebrated his birthday at a hospital. The post read, "Today is my father Jiggs Kalra's 72nd birthday. This is the first time, unfortunately, it has been celebrated in hospital, as he isn't well. Last year we celebrated it together as a family. Nothing matters more than time spent with your parents as each and every single Birthday matters. He is a toughie. Has been battling his stroke for 19 years and will be back soon."
