The South Korean President Moon Jae-in and US first daughter Ivanka Trump has been described as a “killer couple”. A picture of Moon and Ivanka was splashed across the screen as the female broadcaster called them a “killer couple” during its February 25 episode.
The government of South Korea has reportedly demanded an apology from a Turkish TV Channel. The administration went furious after South Korean President Moon Jae-in and US first daughter Ivanka Trump has been described as a “killer couple”. Yes, a Turkish broadcaster apparently pronounced Moon and Trump as the couple suspected of murdering a Filipino national named Joanna Demafelis, in Kuwait after they met during Ivanka’s Olympics visit. The channel did not stop here. They, in fact, aired a photo of Trump and Moon last month and incorrectly described them as married, “millionaire businessman and his wife.”
At a time when the internet is the most common and easiest mode to access information, this channel went on terming the representatives of two nations as murderers first and then audaciously tagged them as a couple. Following the furore caused by the inappropriate reporting, an apology has been asked for. According to the reports shared by The Korea Times, the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 11 stated its demand for an apology from the broadcaster Show TV.
A picture of Moon and Ivanka was splashed across the screen as the female broadcaster called them a “killer couple” during its February 25 episode. Reports further states that Show TV deleted the video online as the South Korean embassy in the capital city of Ankara raised the issue. Further, Newsweek reported that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has repeatedly asked for an apology and not received it. A statement released by the South Korean Foreign Ministry reads, “We made multiple complaints to the broadcaster through our embassy there immediately after the program was aired. We have also called for assurances to prevent similar incidents from happening.” The blunder was discovered by Koreans residing in Turkey who saw the broadcast.
According to The Straits Times, the real suspects behind the murder of the Filipina is a Lebanese citizen, Nader Essam Assaf and his Syrian wife, Mona, who are now in custody. Oops! Seems like the Show TV invited a big trouble. The South Korean Foreign Ministry demanded that the Turkish channel issue a public apology on air. However, any complaints from the United States on the matter have not been reported yet.
