Know About Yeti

The presence of Yeti in the snowy Himalayas have been a popular theory. The legend of Abominable Snowman dates back to the 1920s. Multiple times in the past, trekkers and inhabitants of the Himalayan region have cited the presence of large furry creatures often supported by pictures of its footprints. However, with no scientific evidence or proof to ascertain their presence, Yeti continues to remain a mystery.

The name Yeti was coined by a British explorer who first documented similar footprints in the Lhakpa La of Tibet. Yeti is also commonly referred to as Meh-Teh (man-bear) and Kang-mi (snowman). Movies, serials, TV shows, comics, cartoon have often depicted Yeti making it a popular mythical creature. With no proofs available, scientists believe the footprints to be that of species in the mountains like bears.

American scholar Daniel C Taylor, who has spent about six decades of his life in search of the elusive creature, shared his findings, insights and rare photographs at the Mountain Echoes literary festival last year. Taylor has authored 'Yeti: The Ecology of a Mystery' which explores why people are so fascinated with the possibility of the creature.
