The International Day of Forests is celebrated globally on March 21, every year. Various events are organized to raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests and trees aiming for the benefit of current and future generations. Yes, we have a day to respect nature for all that they provide us. From the clean air we breathe to the perspective we gain when standing next to a towering, ancient tree. Theme of the International Day of Forests 2018
The theme for each International Day of Forests is chosen by the Collaborative Partnership on Forests. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations decided this year’s theme to be—Forests and Sustainable Cities. The purpose is to make the cities greener, healthier and happier places to live. They have organized fun contests on social media to raise awareness with #IntlForstDay.

Walking under the shadow of sprawling trees is so relieving. We tend to spend a fair amount to go on a holiday with our dear ones in green resorts or spend some time in national parks, far away from the urban locales. Waking up to the sound of birds chirping in the countryside gives innate peace. And we cannot ignore that all of us are directly dependent on nature. We must make every possible effort to protect the nature and make our cities beautiful.
