Inspiration! 58-year-old Jyoti Verma, Saves 20 People’s Life From Fire in Delhi Using A Small Bamboo Ladder

In everyday life we come across heroes unsung and otherwise who have won our hearts as they deal with horrific and traumatic incidents. Over the time, we see individuals who do not think once to rescue those whoever are in danger. And our fearless women have always graced humanity with their bravery. Women across the world have been known to show a fearless streak when the circumstances call for it and stands as an inspiration to us. Just like in an incident where a shoe factory at an area named Sultanpuri in New Delhi caught fire but an immediate action by a bold lady saved lives of 20. 58-year-old Jyoti Verma, used a small bamboo ladder to make a temporary overbridge and rescued 20 workers who were trapped inside the burning four-storey footwear factory.

According to the report stated in Hindustan Times, on April 9 the Raja Park Factory in outer Delhi Sultanpuri caught fire early morning. It was around 6:30 am, the 58-year-old was making breakfast and her neighbour named Kunti Devi informed her about the fire in the factory. The shoe factory is adjacent to Verma’s building. Immediately Verma, ran to her terrace and she witnessed nearly 10 workers were screaming for help through an open window from one of its floor. In no time, she took out a saree and threw it to towards the workers; but they were scared to use it to climb down.

Verma further informed that there was a gap of at least 15 feet between the two buildings. She asked the workers not to jump as it might risk their lives. She rushed to her room and all she could find was a small bamboo ladder. Verma with a help of her neighbour Dharmendra who reached her terrace at the same time rescued as many workers. They put one end of the ladder on the roof of the building’s toilet and the other end on the window of the factory. In the next half an hour, around 20 workers were rescued from the factory with the help of the ladder.

A 21-year-old worker Mohammad Ali was quoted on the same report saying, “We cannot come up with words to thank them (Verma and Dharmendra). For us they were God.” One of the neighbour further informed and alleged that the shoe factory was running illegally for the past 10 years. Unfortunately, four including two young boys were killed in the fire. At present, Delhi Fire Personnel are investing the matter. And we just want to take a moment and praise Jyoti Verma for lending a helping hand to all the workers who were trapped in the building. In the hustle of our day to day struggle, it is a delight and inspirational at the same time to come across such heroic stories.
