This extremely graphic video shows an Indonesian man crushed to death after his mother’s coffin fell from a funeral tower on him during the last rites service. The clip captures the painful death of the man as he is smashed under the heavy weight of the coffin in an unfortunate incident. On Saturday, a piece of news from the island of Muna, offshore of Sulawesi left everyone in shock after a 54-year-old woman was swallowed whole by a reticulated python and just a day later, there’s another freakish death reported from the island. This time around, it was a grieving son had an untimely death in the same funeral service centre where he had gone for his dead mother’s funeral rites.
The video shows a group of men carrying a beautifully decorated casket, as the group hoisted it onto a lakkian, an ornately carved tower where the deceased is placed before elaborate traditional funeral rites. Viewers can see the pallbearers lose their balance while carrying the coffin up a bamboo ladder. The incident took place in Parinding valley in North Toraja district, and according to the local police’s statement the ladder suddenly shifted and collapsed. The Toraja are an ethnic group indigenous to a mountainous region of South Sulawesi, Indonesia. When the death of ethnic Torajans take place, locals hold grand funeral rites that involve music, dance and the sacrifice of water buffalo.

"As the mother's coffin was being raised to the lakkian, suddenly the ladder shifted and collapsed, the coffin fell and hit the victim," Julianto Sirait, chief commissioner of the Tana Toraja resort police, told AFP. The victim was 40-year-old Samen Kondorura who you can see in the viral video get entirely crushed by the heavy casket as it straightway landed on him. Despite shocked onlookers rushing him to the hospital, Kondorura could not make it and died. His body is now resting alongside his mother, Berta. Such a tragic end for the mourning son.
