The Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb has made a claim which sounds ridiculous. The CM recently narrated an incident from the epic of Mahabharata and said internet and satellite communication excited from the time and age of the epic’s era! He stated a point that technology existed during the time of the war which helped the narrator Sanjay to give updates to the blind king Dhirtishistra. While you may laugh and ridicule him for his thoughts, he may be right! In fact, not just the internet but laptops, live-streaming and video calling was also invented by the creative minds in India. A South-Indian movie Mayabazar showed it all!
A 1957 Telugu movie was much forward of its time. A particular scene from the movie shows the first laptop, enabling video calling and live-streaming. Coolest stuff right? The movie was made on an estimated budget of Rs. 2,00,000, a really high expense given the era. The epic fantasy film was literally epic in its creations. It was based on the Mahabharata story so Biplab Deb may be actually right. If you do not believe us, check the video yourself.
The video clip from Mayabazar film which shows technological advancements!
The sequence is about queens and a king checking on a bulky box, which opens up to a screen like laptop. The king then makes a video call which shows the live feed of jewellery, then they make calls and check up on others through the screen! In fact, the era had more stronger internet connection. That is not where the laptop’s function ends. Much like we opt for Skype for seeing our loved ones, Mayabazar had a song where the leads are expressing their love over a video calls.
Check the video of a song which shows the pair romancing over a video call:
These two videos are enough to prove the existence of internet long back, aren’t they? (If not in reality at least in the conceptual world) Mayabazar is in fact the first mythological film which was a milestone in itself. It is in fact the first Telugu film which was digitally remastered and colourised. One thing for sure, it was too ahead of its time and reinforces what the Tripura CM has to express!
