Managing work with family often becomes difficult, the perfect work-life balance goes for a toss. Prioritising work or home over the other often leads to problems and moreover guilt. To keep both going at the same pace has almost become a myth, at least for Indians, who are overworked and prefer office over holidays. Meanwhile, Charity Delmo, the founder and managing director of a company called Ideal Visa Consultancy in the Philippines has kickstarted a debated with her open letter to employees on prioritising family over work.
It is hard to choose or skip any of the both and the scenario is the same across countries. While stalling household responsibilities over official duties may seem fine, in the long it affects family maters. Charity in her open letter on Facebook which has received over 54,000 reactions says, "your work can wait. I can wait." Have an Abusive Boss at Workplace? While Charity's thoughts on work-life balance have received positive reactions from many employees, but employers don't seem to agree. As her letter goes viral, people have commented saying that Charity's policy is not something offices believe in and is a rare case. Her letter further reads, "So when the time comes that you will have to choose between attending your sons and daughters’ school activities over a client’s needs, if you have to choose between your wife or your husband’s needs over mine as your boss, —please choose them."
Acknowledging that not all employers believe in it, she writes, "You see, not all employers will understand some of my principles in leadership but I would rather close this company than seeing you miss your kids school activities because you have to be in a meeting, or seeing you getting broken because of your unfixed misunderstanding with your husband or wife."
