Iceland midfielder Rurik Gislason has become a social media sensation, thanks to his small role in the 1-1 World Cup draw with Argentina. Gislason came on as a second-half substitute on Saturday and his Instagram following has been increasing ever since. He now has admirers worldwide who can't stop talking about the Nordic's looks. Before Rurik's appearance on the field he had 30,000 Instagram followers and now it has increased double fold. The footballer now has over 6,93,000 followers on the social networking site which is two times the population of his country.
According to World Bank, as of 2016, Iceland's population is just 3.34 lakhs. Gislason'social media following had grown to 250,000 by Tuesday and saw a steady increase. Rurik came in for 30 minutes to help hold Lionel Messi and co. at bay, but the small time period became a life-changing moment for him.

On Wednesday, Rurik took to Instagram saying he was interviewed for a documentary film about Iceland's 2018 FIFA World Cup venture. Sharing glimpses from the shoot, he wrote on Instagram, "A documentary film about our World Cup adventure is being filmed. This evening it was my turn to tell a few stories and talk about my experience so far."
The 30-year-old who plays for German second division outfit Sandhausen also works as a model for the Icelandic clothing brand 66°North. Rurik has grabbed international headlines in no time and Argentinian media is covering him extensively. On social media, admirers are also comparing him to Hollywood actor Brad Pitt.
