In a strange incident, a woman disguised herself as a man to marry another woman. The woman tricked the victim into believing that she was a man over the course of their seven-year relationship. The reality only came to light after the couple got married recently. The woman met the 'man' at an IT firm at Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram. Her 'boyfriend' told her that he was a temporary staff with the same firm.
It is suspected that the marriage was a trap to extract money and gold from the girl. No case has been registered in the incident as the victim's family has been disinclined in making an official complaint.
The woman introduced herself as Sreeram when they first met and also gave a fake address in Kollam. The bride's family suspected a slight foul play when the 'bridegroom' walked alone into the registrar's office for the marriage minutes before muhurtham (auspicious time). On asking he said 'he' told the girl's relatives that he met with an accident on the way and that his relatives will arrive soon. However, no one came even after the marriage ceremony and other formalities.
Following the wedding, the 'bridegroom' took the girl and her family to a single-room rented house. The girl's family and relatives again could not believe that there was nobody in the house to welcome the newlyweds. Suspecting that things were not so well, the girl's family took the girl's gold ornaments with them when they left.
Soon the bride received an anonymous call informing her that her 'husband' was actually a man. The caller who introduced as 'bridegroom's friend' asked the girl to escape from the house immediately.
Only then, the 'bridegroom' demanded gold from the girl to clear debts. Understanding she was in a trap, the girl informed her family members who asked her to come to her house. The duo was then taken to a local police station and a medical examination revealed the 'bridegroom' was a woman. The bride's family registered no case and both the parties were let go.
