Hurricane Florence: Six Dogs Abandoned by Owners in Flooded Kennel Rescued From North Carolina(Watch Video)
The Coast Guard as of Sunday rescued 91 pets in North Carolina after the hurricane hit the state.
Hurricane Florence made downfall in North Carolina and South Carolina states of the United States last week affected millions of people. As the torrential rains coupled with winds lashed the states causing flooding, the death toll rose to 14. The natural calamity has not just affected humans, but animals too. The Coast Guard as of Sunday rescued 91 pets in North Carolina after the hurricane hit the state.
Reportedly, 20 pets were saved by the helicopter crews alone. Meanwhile, in Leland located in Wilmington, a group of volunteer rescued dogs who were abandoned in their kennel. Their cage had completely flooded and they finding it difficult to keep out of the water. A freelance reporter Marcus DiPoala posted a video on Twitter showing he and another person rescued six dogs that abandoned by their owners as the water level rose. Coast Guard crews also rescued 10 beagles from a home in the town of Riegelwood. According to forecasts rivers are going to reach record levels soon. Currently, the storm is travelling westwards at 13 kph and may reach 13 kph in North Carolina's Charlotte with winds measuring 61 kph. Hundreds of trees were uprooted, houses destroyed and flooded rivers entered residential areas. While Florence has been downgraded into a tropical depression, flash flooding is expected in the Carolinas.
According to the National Hurricane Center, North Carolina has received over 30 inches of rain which is record high in the state. According to officials "worse is yet to come" and has warned residents to stay away from roads and trees until conditions improve. A disaster declaration for North Carolina, ordering federal aid in the regions affected by Hurricane Florence has been approved by the US President Donald Trump, said the White House. Trump is expected to visit the areas soon.
