After grabbing eyeballs for hiring a transgender as a news anchor, Pakistani media is the limelight again for welcoming a male Sikh as their newscaster. Private news channel Public News which employed Harmeet Singh took to Twitter saying, "Pakistan's 1st Sikh News Anchor Harmeet Singh only on #PublicNews." They also posted a video of the Sikh reporter in the newsroom chatting with other news anchors.

Recently, Manmeet Kaur became the first female Sikh reporter in Pakistan. Appointment of Maavia Malik, a member of the transgender community, as an anchor, also created quite a buzz on social media. Social media was in all praises at the Pakistani news channel's forward step. People took to Twitter saying that it showed the country's diversity and was becoming more inclusive.

While a Twitter user wrote, "Nice to see Sikhs shine on Pakistan Media Channels." Another tweeted, "Good to see Pakistan media trying to be more inclusive. Progressive step. Good luck."

Marvia Malik, a journalism graduate from Punjab University garnered attention when she was hired as a trainee anchor at Lahore-based channel Kohenoor News. She is the first news anchor in Pakistan who identifies as transgender. The Pakistani media received immense praise for their step in representing the transgender community. In the country with a population of almost 200 million, around 10,000 individuals identify themselves as transgender.
