Guwahati, August 28: Parts of Assam were lashed with heavy rains and a little more than half an hour of downpour in the capital had the airport leaking. Several parts of Guwahati were water-logged and it was frustrating for passengers when the lounge area of Guwahati airport started leaking, much like a shower. The heavy rains caused the newly-made ceiling to drip of rainwater although the flight operations were smooth. A video of the same went viral on social media, angering the passengers about the quality of work done by the officials. There was heavy rain from 8.45 pm to 10 pm which had the rainwater enter the new canopy of the passenger lounge. P K Tailong, the manager of the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, told PTI, "“We had recently expanded the canopy and it was an initial teething problem. I was present there and it was immediately attended to." However, passengers had to face severe inconvenience some of them getting wet in the water, while others struggled to move their luggage.

The airport shows look messy with all the water dripping on the floor, one can imagine how inconvenient it must have been for the tourists commuting yesterday. The airport officials, however, denied that the machines below were affected. “All the scheduled flights operated as usual last night,” the airport manager said to a report.
