A terrible sight of a tapeworm, being taken out from a man’s stomach has been captured on camera. The incident has been reported from the northern state of Haryana, India. Identified only as Viren in reports, the man was suffering from stomach ache for nearly fifteen days and was clueless as to what might have caused this severe pain. Through the help of a CT scan and minute examination, the doctors discovered a live tapeworm, crawling in his intestine, potential enough to kill him. Worms can easily get into a human’s body very easily and this incident is not something unheard. Doctors often suggest cleaning the vegetables, meat and many kinds of food, as any insect present in them (in case) could be harmful to the human body. Dr Devender Panwar, a surgeon, who conducted the operation was quoted in a TOI report as stating, “During sanitization of his intestine, the worm having a length of around 6.3 feet was taken out alive. The doctor believes that the patient was lucky as they could identify the worm at an earlier stage. As per the surgeon, the scientific name of the worm was “Taenia solium,” which could stay in the body for at least 25 years and may even lead to epilepsy at a later stage. It can also cause death as it affects the brain, which weakens the body. At present, the patient is safe and kept under observation. He further suggested washing the vegetable carefully before cooking.
