A wedding ceremony is meant to be a happy occasion for family members but a marriage in Bihar saw a dramatic turn of events when a groom turned up drunk. The incident took place in Samastipur district when the groom came in heavily drunk. Not just the groom but even his father was drunk and the wedding was immediately called off. But the drama doesn't stop there. The wedding guests were taken into hostage by the girl's relatives. They demanded Rs 3.5 lakh from the family. As per the report in News18, the bizarre incident took place in the Rasalpur village of Samastipur district. Suraj Kumar, the groom reached the venue of the wedding in a drunk state. When they went to complain to his father Surendra Mahto, they realised he was drunk too! The father of the bride Om Prakash was left fuming and the family refused to marry the man. Moreover, the family took the guests of the groom's side hostage. The groom and his father were held and eventually the panchayat had to intervene. The groom and his father were released only after they paid up Rs 3.5 lakhs. And to release the guests, they had to pay another Rs 50,000. All this while, the groom's sister informed the police and she alleged that they took no action. In a similar incidence held in January this year in Patna, a cop came drunk for his own wedding. The cop indulged in fights with few guests at the wedding. The police were called in and he was later arrested. So such incidences have been reported even before. It is sad to see how a happy occasion of marriage gets turned into a dramatic stage.
