A news or rather a rumour has been going around on social media about the appearance of Green Moon in the night sky on April 20. But this one rumour is getting more than its due because it has been coming from the year of 2016! Like some internet hoaxes which keep resurfacing once in a while, the green moon is a similar one. It has also been related to the 420 concept which marks the World Weed Day. The green moon on April 20 is all a rumour. In fact, the full moon day is at the end of April.

To make it more convincing the rumour puts it as the phenomenon which occurs once in 420 years. On its relation to the number 420, marijuana enthusiasts refer to the day numerically ("four twenty") which is then co-relates to the day and month. The rumour seems to be such a carefully planned one with green weed leaves, the date, the significance and then creating a lunar rumour! There are a lot of eerie explanations to some planets aligning causing the moon to change its colour but all of them are just fallacies put out on the internet. It was said that the moon would be just 4 degrees from the green-hued planet Uranus in the sky, and thus it would a green sheen from the close interaction. Such things of course do not occur! The original 2016 picture that circulated was an edited version of NASA's picture of the moon.

Here is the hoax picture that has been going viral since years:

The green moon story is a big joke but imagining something so bizarre, it spread like wildfire. So what you see now again on the internet is an old joke coming up. Before you believe something like this, at least look up to the moon. The moon is crescent and nowhere close to a full moon. The full moon in April will be on April 29 (America). So it is safe to say the Green Moon is nothing more than an urban legend.
