Washington DC, October 6: In a bizarre incident that took place in the United States, a woman was allegedly stopped at the Minnesota airport for carrying giraffe poop along with her. The incident came to light when the woman was stopped by Customs and Border Patrol officials at the airport for bringing giraffe poop from Kenya. Officials found a box of giraffe poop which the woman was carrying. The alleged incident took place last month.
According to a report in CBS News, the incident came to light on September 29, when the woman from Lowa, a US State, was selected for inspection by the agriculture specialists from the customs agency. Upon being stopped, the woman told officials that she had brought giraffe faeces to make a necklace. However, officials destroyed the box and disposed of the poop of the giraffe. How Was the Giraffe Poop Destroyed?
The US Customs and Border Protection said that the woman accepted that she was planning to use giraffe poop to make a necklace. The woman also told officials at the airport that she used moose droppings in the past to make jewellery. However, officials did not pay heed and destroyed the giraffe poop via steam sterilization in accordance with the United States Department of Agriculture destruction protocol.
Fear of 'Serious' Health Issues
In an official statement, LaFonda D. Sutton-Burke, field director of CBP's Chicago, said, "There is a real danger with bringing faecal matter into the US. Sutton-Burke said that if the woman had entered the United States and not declared the items, there was a high possibility of a person contracting a disease from the jewellery made out of the poop. The agency also said that the poop was disposed of as Kenya is presently affected with African swine fever, classical swine fever, Newcastle disease, and foot and mouth disease, among others. The woman won't face any sanctions as she declared the faeces before customs officials.
