Get Pregnant With 2018 FIFA WC Players & Win Lifetime Supply of 'Whoppers'! Burger King Russia Apologises for Sexist Ad
The fast food joint promised a reward of free burgers to women who get ‘the best football genes’ and ‘ensure the success of the Russian team for generations to come’.
Burger King Russia recently announced on social media a sexist and demeaning advertisement. It was offering a lifetime supply of Whoppers to Russian women who get pregnant by World Cup players. The brand offered an apology and removed the advertisement on Tuesday from its social media account although it was still circulating among Russian social network users.
The fast food joint promised a reward of free burgers to women who get ‘the best football genes’ and ‘ensure the success of the Russian team for generations to come’. The advertisement also reportedly claimed that women would receive 3 million roubles (64,000 dollars) under the offer.
Burger King Post on Russian Social Media Account
In a statement on Wednesday to The Associated Press, Burger King said, “We are sorry about the clearly offensive promotion that the team in Russia launched online.” It also said that the offer ‘does not reflect our brand or our values and we are taking steps to ensure this type of activity does not happen again.’
Before the World Cup commenced, German coach implemented a strict sex ban on its players. And on the other hand, senior Russian lawmaker advised Russian women to not have sex with men of different race during the World Cup. Let's hope that the brand learns something from its mistake and hopefully isn't insensitive towards its consumers, especially women.
