An obese and bedridden woman was found decomposing in her home in Northern Georgia. She was covered in maggots and cockroaches crawling on her and her legs were decomposing. Authorities confirmed that she was alive and have lodged a complaint of neglect of a disabled or elderly person against her caretakers. The woman identified as Tracie Sorrells is in her 50s and was discovered after a call from an unresponsive person. When the Gwinnett County Fire & Emergency Services workers arrived she was almost in near-death condition. Her present condition is not yet revealed but firefighters reported that she may not stay long enough.
Her husband Terry Terry Sorrells, 54, and their son, Christian, 18, were the sole caretakers of her. They were charged of neglect, a felony offence. The Gwinnett County firefighters had said they had transported Tracie a month ago but when they returned they found her condition miserable. "During the process of moving the patient, the fire department noticed that the patient's legs [were] completely black and showing signs of active decomposition," the report said. "Maggots and roaches were attached to her and eating at her flesh." There was garbage surrounding the woman's body and trash everywhere else. The entire house had cockroaches within. The woman's legs had turned black which indicated signs of dead tissue. The cockroaches and maggots were eating her flesh!
When she was transported to the hospital, her husband rode with her in the ambulance and her son informed that she had been bedridden for nearly two years and had been getting worse. But he also mentioned how no one in the family was earning and the family was going through tough phases financially. The father and son were later taken into custody and are each being held on $22,200 bond, booking records show. The current condition of the woman is not yet revealed but it is indeed shocking to know the level of neglect shown by the family.
