The technique of Virtual Reality has been a pioneering part of the cinema industry. The 360-degree views give an all-around perspective of any frame. And to honour the very technique, search giant Google is showcasing a short film in its doodle. The virtual reality doodle honours the work of Georges Méliès, a French filmmaker, one of the pioneer filmmakers. Georges was known for using a lot of special effects and experimentation in his films. The VR short film is called 'Back to the Moon.' The release of this doodle is in line with Google featuring of Georges Méliès films and memorabilia in an exhibit in Google's Arts & Culture app. The 3rd of May also happens to be the anniversary of Méliès's film The Conquest of the Pole.

The doodle is a short-film which uses techniques used by the filmmaker in his films. It is a medley showing the Méliès doing various activities in one frame. Often the filmmaker would star in his own films and in the same strip to create an illusion. He would use mystery and confuse his audiences. This short-film allows the user to drag and scroll through the entire set and enjoy the medley.

Take a look at the video of Georges Méliès Google Doodle:

This entire doodle making took months to prepare. It has been created by created by Google’s doodle team in collaboration with Google Spotlight Stories, Google Arts & Culture and Cinémathèque Française teams, and produced by London’s Nexus Studios. The work on this doodle began in September last year and the production took full 6 months! That is a lot of dedication and time for doodles, which otherwise have just design and drawings. “We are always trying to find new ideas,” said Google doodler and “Back to the Moon” co-director Helene Leroux. “This is the first VR experience that we did for Doodles.”

It is a fantastic animated creation and one can enjoy and cleverly show the effects. It will be available in the Google Spotlight Stories app on iOS or Android, and can be played back in VR on Cardboard or Daydream View. It can also be watched on Google's Spotlight Stories YouTube channel.
