And that's so because it is exclusively prepared for the astronauts travelling in Gaganyaan, India's first human space flight. Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) has released the food items that are specially prepared for the astronauts who will be taking this special flight before 2022. So, what is in the store for Gaganyaan astronauts? Well, it includes everything from egg rolls, veg rolls, idli, veg pulao and yes, there's moong dal halwa. Gaganyaan is an Indian crewed orbital spacecraft intended to be the formative spacecraft of the Indian Human Spaceflight Programme. It is India's maiden manned mission around the earth's orbit by 2022. And preparations for the big event has been grand as they are ensuring astronauts are well taken care of. DRDO's Mysore-based Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL) has been working on adapting a range of packaged food items keeping the alienated and severe conditions in mind. According to the media agency, ANI, "For the Indian astronauts scheduled to go into Space in Mission Gaganyan, food items including Egg rolls, Veg rolls, Idli, Moong dal halwa and Veg Pulav have been prepared by the Defence Food Research Laboratory, Mysore. Food heaters would also be provided to them."

They also informed about the liquid that will be provided to the travelling astronauts. The report says, "To help astronauts drink liquids including water and juices in Space where there is no gravity, special containers have also been developed for Mission Gaganyan." Earlier, four ace pilots of the Indian Air Force (IAF) were selected for India's maiden manned mission Gaganyaan around the earth's orbit by 2022, a top space official announced on January 1. "We have selected 4 IAF pilots for our first human-crewed space mission in 2021-22. Three of them will go into space to orbit around the earth for a week and conduct experiments in micro-gravity and bio-science," state-run Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman K. Sivan told reporters here, but did not reveal their identities or names. IAF test pilot Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma was the first Indian to have gone into space as a cosmonaut aboard Soyuz-T from Russia on April 2, 1984, when he was 35 years old. (Inputs from IANS).
