According to DW.com the park's manager, Fabrizio Sepe, said that it is not known what enraged Kusini. The rhino has been living in the park for 18 months. Fabrizio does not present any risk to visitors, however, admitted that the animal might be better off in a zoo. Serengeti Park made headlines earlier this year when an animal keeper was wounded in an enclosure.

With rhino numbers being historically low, Kusini was brought to the park for breeding purposes. Due to conservation efforts, the species has been reclassified from Endangered to Vulnerable. Poaching and habitat loss have been one of the major causes of the decline of their population. Incidents of angry animals flipping vehicles have been captured on camera multiple times in the past.
