If there is one thing that people are desperately waiting for its rainy season. Most parts of the country are facing a heatwave situation and the scorching heat keeps on rising every day. A week into the rainy month of June, there is still no sign of rains in most parts of the country yet. In order to please the rain gods, a pair of frogs were married in Karnataka's Udupi region. Like a formal wedding ceremony, the male and female frogs were dressed in traditional custom made outfits. A wedding invitation was prepared and after the wedding ceremony, a procession was carried out. The wedding was organised by Nityananda Volakadu, former councillor and social worker, Udupi Zilla Nagarika Samiti, and Pancharatna Seva Trust. As per reports in The Hindu, the wedding invitation read, "Chi. Varun, son of Kalsank, with Chi. Sou. Varsha, daughter of Kolalgiri Kilinje. The wedding party will come in a procession from Maruthi Veethika, pass through KEB Office, Mitra Hospital, Old Diana Circle, and culminate at Kediyoor Hotel here." Monsoon Hits Kerala Coast After Week’s Delay, Says IMD.

The ceremony was organised to solve the massive water scarcity that is seen in the Udupi district of the state. Although this is not the first time, such a ritual has taken place. In fact, every year at the onset of monsoon, frogs are married to appease the rain gods. Similar weddings have also been organised in Assam. It is not clear from where this tradition originated but it has favoured in some parts of the country. Let us see if Karnataka sees a good amount of rainfall soon. The monsoons have arrived in Kerala and it is said that it will still take a week or more for the rains to begin in the northern parts of the country.
