EFrench President Emmanuel Macron's remark on Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's wife Lucy has left everyone shocked. Wrapping up a joint press conference with Turnbull at Kirribilli House in Sydney, Macron thanked the Prime Minister and his "delicious" wife for their hospitality during his visit. The awkward remark has left social media users wondering what the French PM actually wanted to convey. Speaking in English the French President said, "Thanks to you and your delicious wife for your warm welcome, the perfect organisation of this trip."
Turnbull in return did not respond to the questionable mention of his wife and smilingly shook hands with Macron. However, social media users were in no mood to let go of the slip-off moment. While some said Macron fell short of words, other said he could be joking. Trying to decipher Macron's speech, some Twitterati said that Macron may have misused "delicious" for the French word "délicieux" which can be translated as "delightful" or "charming".

Sometimes translation is tough.

Here's how one of the social media users responded
Macron just said he wanted to thank Malcolm Turnbull and his "delicious wife".
You can take the man out of France but...

Another interpretation
The French President @EmmanuelMacron just referrened to @TurnbullMalcolm 's "delicious wife", in a slightly awkward mistranslation I imagine

Here's some explanation
This might help explain the awkward mistranslation of the French President describing Malcolm Turnbull's wife as "delicious". pic.twitter.com/CTDE7ANunY

However, we are not sure of that with Macron being someone with an excellent command over English. Last week, he received a standing ovation for his address at US Congress in Washington. While we are not sure, if Macron lost it in translation, a similar incident happened in 2009.
French minister, Pierre Lellouche termed Prime Minister David Cameron's pledge to reclaim EU powers "pathetic". The term in French is often translated as "moving" or "touching".
