Tim Brent, a former professional hockey player is facing the wrath of social media users for posing with a dead grizzly bear that he hunted down. The 34-year-old tweeted that he shot animals in Yukon territory of Canada and later revealed pictures of the two creatures he shot. Brent has played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Carolina Hurricanes before retiring in 2016.

Sharing pictures with the dead animal, he wrote on Instagram, "Alright folks, here is my Mountain Grizzly! We put an awesome stalk on him but he spotted us at about 75 yards. Instead of taking off he turned and came right at us. It was very easy to tell this boar owned the valley we were hunting in and wasn’t scared of anything!" Another photo of Brent holding up the paws of the bear reads, "Did you know on average a single Grizzly eats around 40 Moose and Caribou calves during each calving season?"

Comedian Ricky Gervais was also among social media users to attack the Brent for his act. While some comments simply criticised him, others sent him death threats.

With some comments being very violent, Brent informed officials at Twitter. However, the social media platform said the threats did not violate their abuse policy.  He responded to criticisms saying, "This is what we are up against as hunters and conservationists." Brent's wife Eva Shockey-Brent is a well-known hunter and first woman in three decades to make the cover of Field & Stream.
