A knock on the door turned into a nightmare for a woman in Florida recently. When she looked out to see who it was, it was an alligator! Geri Staples of Merritt Island did not know what to do when she was the huge alligator waiting outside her door. She heard aggressive knocks on her door so she peeped out to see who it was. Fearing if it broke through the door, she ran upstairs and even the neighbours could not help her. The ruckus outside the door died down, literally when the alligator had to be killed. Talking about the freaky incident Staples was quoted to a news report, "I saw him right there and he hit the door, and that's when I ran upstairs. A crocodile trapper eventually came and had to kill the large alligator. According to wildlife officials, it is estimated to be at least 60 years old and weighed close to 160 kgs. The trapper had a struggle with the gator and then had to shoot to control the animal. Staples was only relieved that the daunting and unwanted guest was taken away. "I’m just glad they took him away, so I don’t have to worry about him anymore," she said. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) warned others to stay safe from these alligators, which start becoming more active as the temperatures rise.
