New Delhi, August 6: The title "Fifty Shades of Grey" trended on Twitter after Congress MP Manish Tewari on Tuesday mentioned the erotic novel in Lok Sabha during a debate on revoking the special status granted to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370. Manish Tewari's reference to the "Fifty Shades of Grey" book evoked funny reactions from Twitterati who took it out of the context.

During the debate, soon after Tewari concluded his speech, Union Home Minister Amit Shah asked him to clarify whether the Congress party is against or in support of the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. Tewari responded: "There is an English book. Everything is not black and white. There are fifty shades of grey in between." Many on Twitter assumed that the Congress leader was making some kind of parallel between Jammu and Kashmir and the movie based on the "Fifty Shades of Grey" novel. Smita Prakash, editor of news agency ANI, then tweeted about the incident and remarked that people should Google "Fifty Shades Of Grey" to get a better idea of what they were talking about. Jammu and Kashmir Loses Privileges Under Article 370, Article 35A: What Does it Mean For Kashmiris and Other Indians?
