Fearless Girl Statue's Location to be Changed From Wall Street to New York Stock Exchange
It is going to be moved to a nearby spot where the girl will gaze at the New York Stock Exchange.
The bronze statue of the little girl staring down at Wall Street's massive 'Charging Bull' is going to change its spot. Fearless Girl had gained a lot of attention after being installed at Bowling Green in the Financial District of Manhattan, New York City last year. It is going to be moved to a nearby spot where the girl will gaze at the New York Stock Exchange. The statue of the girl with her chin pointed up in a windblown dress was sculpted by artist Kristen Visbal.
The bronze statue was installed near Wall Street in 2017 in honour of International Women's Day but only had a temporary permit. Hence, now it will be moved but will remain in New York City permanently, just around the corner. It was then installed by Boston-based State Street Global Advisors financial firm to encourage companies to have more women in their organisation. While it was temporary, an online petition seeking to make it permanent to which the city agreed.
The statue's popularity rose as it is kept opposite the sculpture of 'Charging Bull' built by Italian sculptor Arturo Di Modica created as a symbol of American financial resilience following the 1987 stock market crash.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and State Street Global Advisors, the asset management business of State Street Corporation announced the move to a new location. However, Di Modica called the statue of the little girl "an advertising trick" and wanted it to be removed from there.
Also, the statues have been resulting in crowding in the area with people taking to the streets. The location of the bull can also be changed in the near future for safety reasons of the public.
