Father's Day Card Featuring 'Baby Daddy' Sparks Outrage, Target Forced to Remove Them Off Shelves

Father's Day is around the corner and the cliched idea of gifting cards and chocolates or a cake still remains. People may go around buying special gifts for their dads but a simple greeting with a heartfelt message also works. As many cards are already on the gift shop shelves, one such card from American Greetings Target suffered a huge backlash for showcasing racism. One such card for Father's day had a black couple with the words 'Baby Daddy' spread across it. Buyers were not impressed and there was a huge outcry on social media. The feedback was so strong that Target took notice and was forced to take the particular card off the shelves. It depicted a black couple on the outside and the inside read, "You're a wonderful husband and father — and I'm so grateful to have you as my partner, my friend, and my baby daddy! Happy Father's Day." The card was meant to be for a husband but the words on the outside used a very culturally insensitive term, causing all the outrage. After one user pointed it out, several others took to social media calling out Target. The card is now taken off all their 900 stores.

Talking about the issue American Greetings said, "This particular card was created for, and addressed to, a loving husband — which the inside copy makes clear. However, we now see that the front page, taken out of context, can communicate an unintentional meaning that we are strongly against perpetuating and is not consistent with our company purpose and values. We should do better in the future, and we will. We have notified our store merchandisers to remove the card from the shelves and apologize for any offense we’ve caused." They took consideration of the feedback and got it removed from everywhere.
