Mumbai, March 24: One of the finest actors of Indian Cinema, Farooq Sheikh was born on March 25, 1948. This year, the most ‘natural actor’ of the film industry will celebrate his 70th birth anniversary. Known for ideating and creating creative doodles on special occasions, web-giant Google came up with another charismatic doodle of Farooq Sheikh, commemorating the actor’s 70th anniversary, this Saturday.

Farooq Sheikh also called Farouque Shaikh, was an actor and also a popular TV-host. Sheikh was born in Amroli village, in Gujarat, and was the eldest of the five children in his family. Like his lawyer father, Sheikh tried his hand at studying law too. However, he couldn’t clear and eventually resorted to acting as his professional career.

Sheikh began his career doing plays in theatres before making his debut in the film Garam Hawa in the year 1973. He was a supporting actor in the film with the lead actor being another great of Indian cinema, Balraj Sahni. The movie was the pioneer of the new wave of Hindi Art Cinema. Not many people know that his salary for his first movie was only Rs. 750.

He was a part of many notable films - Shatranj Ke Khiladi (1977), Noorie (1979), Chashme Buddoor (1981), Umrao Jaan(1981), Saath Saath(1982), Katha (1983), Ab Ayega Mazaa (1984, Salma (1985), Biwi Ho To Aisi (1988) And Maya Memsaab (1993). His last notable films were Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani (2013), and Youngistaan (2014) – released after his death. His anchoring in a TV show ‘Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai – Season 1’ was widely applauded too.

Not many people are aware that he was an active contributor in several UNICEF polio eradication programs too. Sheikh died of a heart attack in December 2013 in Dubai, where he was holidaying with his family members.
