A fake photo of trash claiming to have been left behind by Australian global climate strike protestors have gone viral on social media. The picture shows hundreds of plastic cups and bags lying on a large piece of land. A few trash bins can also be seen on the ground. Even though the photo lacks any verification, the photo with a false caption has been shared over 19,000 times in just 12 hours. While the photo is being circulated blaming climate change activists for being irresponsible, the picture was actually clicked elsewhere. The photo began to be circulated on Facebook after around three lakh Australians and millions around the world participated in a protest demanding action on the climate crisis. Following which this photo began circulating on social media platforms with the caption, "Look at the mess today's climate protesters left behind in beautiful Hyde Park." It actually originated in April and is not from a climate protest event. The picture is from a marijuana-based festival called 420 held in London on April 2019. London's Royal Parks authority had addressed the hoax in April, however, the picture continues to go viral. On Friday, neither Sydney hosted climate strike in Hyde Park, nor did London.

According to the fact-checking site Snopes, the marijuana event was held in London after the Extinction Rebellion protest. The rubbish in the photo at London's Hyde Park was created by the 420 attendees and not climate protesters. In fact, organisers said that Extinction Rebellion protestors helped them in cleaning the trash. As per Snopes, fake information began to spread after Facebook page THTC's (The Hemp Trading Company) attempt to shame 420 attendees. After their post went viral, many misinterpreted it. On Friday, more than 200 events demanding action on climate change were held. It was one of the biggest environmental events the UK had seen in a long time. In Australia, around three lakh people came out on the streets demanding government's reaction in issues pertaining to global warming.
