One of the most noted structures in the world, Eiffel Tower lighted up for International Women's Day 2018  on Wednesday. Honouring women's rights the message read "Maintenant On Agit" which can be translated to "Now We Act". Maintenant On Agit is the French equivalent of the Time's Up movement in which women across countries spoke openly about their harrowing experiences of sexual violence and abuse.

The initiative displayed on Eiffel Tower at 7 pm local time was in association with France' Culture Ministry and the Paris Mayor's office. Ahead of the event, French Culture Minister Françoise Nyssen and Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo spoke from the tower's Esplanade in support of the movement to unite in fight violence against women.

The initiative was launched by Foundation of Women, a group of French actors, directors and producers last month launched the #MaintenantOnAgit (#NowWeAct) campaign to ensure justice for female victims of violence. The French film industry also displayed support for the #MeToo campaign at ésar Awards, France’s equivalent to the Oscars which were held on Friday. Attendees on the red carpet wore white ribbon showcasing their support.

The La tour Eiffel took to Twitter to share pictures of their initiative, check them here:

Women today are speaking up against inequality and the deep-rooted patriarchal society and initiatives like these are necessary to take it ahead. While the fight against sexual harassment and other injustice women face will take long to recede, it is quite appreciative how one of the 7 wonders of the world brightened up to spread the message.
