Eid 2018: In UK, 1.4 Lakh Muslims Offer Prayers And Celebrate Festival in Record-Breaking Event (Watch Video)

As Muslims around the world celebrated Eid today, over 1.4 lakh people gathered showcasing the essence of the festival. The record-breaking crowd gathered in Birmingham, the United Kingdom to offer namaz. The celebrations were organised by Green Lane Masjid and Community Centre (GLMCC). With the success of the gathering, it is now being termed as the "largest-ever Eid celebrations" in Europe. The festivities at Small Heath Park in the British city also included fairground rides, food stalls, miniature golf and laser clay pigeon shooting among other things.

Social media is now flooded with photos and videos of the celebrations held on a large scale. A GLMCC spokesperson was quoted saying, "We've been working for months with five local Mosques and our charity partner Human Appeal to organise the community for a memorable day of prayer, games and fun." To participate in the celebrations, families travelled as far as the USA for the 'Festival of Breaking the Fast' at 9 am.

The event which is in its seventh year has been seeing an increase in participants since 2012, where 12,000 people attended. They raised Rs 3.6 crore for the Saving Syria Project and Rs 9 crore during the month of Ramadan. Eid marks the end of the holy month of Ramzan during which Muslims fast from dawn till dusk. During the month of Ramzan, Muslims pray and follow the norms and customs according to Islam. Praying, fasting and charity are important principles of Ramzan.
