The last Boeing 747 flight for El Al took off its final flight today carrying passengers. Before retiring from Rome back to its home at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, the Flight LY1747 painted a 747 flight in the sky with the help from Flight Radar 24.

Before retiring from Rome back to its home at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, the Flight LY1747 painted a 747 flight in the sky with the help from Flight Radar 24. About 2 hours into the flight from Rome to Tel Aviv the aircraft, the aircraft drew a special tribute to the 747 in the sky southwest of Cyprus. Flight Radar 24 is live-tweeting maps and pictures of the painting by the Boeing 747. Flight Radar 24 tweeted that the aircraft "descended to 10,000 feet to begin its artwork." El Al is the flag carrier of Israel, they have 43 aircraft which has very soon to be retired 747s and 787-9 Dreamliners. The aircraft is known for paying extra attention to security and are the only ones in the world armed with missile countermeasures. Flight Radar 24 tweeted pictures of the aircraft saying, "Tomorrow, El Al will retire its final Boeing 747 from service after 48 years of operating the type. 747-400 4X-ELC will fly from Rome and will draw a 747 in 'flight tracker art' over the Eastern Mediterranean."

Flight LY1747 left Rome at 10 am local time today made its way over the mediterranean sea to Israel. It began painting over southern Cyprus around 2 pm. With this flight, El Al plans to retire their 747-400 fleet and replace all their services with Boeing 787 aircraft. They will be on most US-bound routes, with some operated by densified Boeing 777s.
