The video which went viral saw Ahmed laughing while she was touching the genitalia of a monkey at a pet shop in the Nile Delta city. She was making sexual innuendos and people around her were also laughing at the act. One of her friends has filmed her while they were at the shop and the video was shared among the friends' group. According to an Egyptian news report, Brigadier General Issam Abu Arab, head of the Protection of Literacy Department, identified the accused. Ahmed told the prosecution that she was just fond of the animal and in no way meant to abuse the animal. In the court, she "confessed … to the incident but said she did not mean to commit an indecent act and that she had been tickling the monkey”. But the video had caused an outrage in the country and given the nature of laws in the country, Ahmed now faces a three-year jail term.
