Weddings in India are taking a turn towards grandiosity these days. From elaborate decorations, fancy wedding invitations or over the top celebrations the face of Indian weddings is changing. But as we see some extravagant ones, there are those who are addressing the problems at hand and creating awareness about different issues. An independent MLA from Tanur constituency, Mr V Abdurahiman made eco-friendly wedding cards for his daughter Rizwana’s marriage ceremony. While the eco-friendly paper is still ordinary, this wedding card is novel with seeds embedded on it. So a person would have to plant it and see flowers or vegetables growing from them over time. Isn't it innovative?
These cards were made with handmade recycled paper and had a mix of flower and herb seeds. The card itself carries the instructions for the guests, how to put it to use later. "The paper is handmade and 100% recyclable. It is then coated with several varieties of flower and vegetable seeds. It could be brinjal, lady’s finger, tomato or even a marigold flower seed. We screen-printed our wedding invitations on this paper," Abdurahiman told the Indian Express. Most people throw out the wedding cards later but these cards even if just thrown in the soil would grow into beautiful plants. Bride From West Bengal Ditched Wedding Gifts And Asked Guests to Donate Blood Instead.
The wedding card reads, "This card is printed on 100% recycled paper embedded with a mix of flower and herb seeds. Moisten card and plant just under the surface of some soil in a sunny spot. Water regularly and wait for the seeds to grow." These cards may take longer to be made and are also so effective when it comes to spreading awareness about the environment and planting trees. Plus with a card as unique as this, the guests would not throw it out but plant it in their garden or nearby. "When they see these plants in future growing in their garden, they will think about our happy wedding," he chuckled. We quite agree!
