Dutch Queen Maxima's Sister Inés Zorreguieta Dies in Argentina Home

The Dutch queen's sister was found dead at her apartment in Bueno Aires. The youngest sister of Queen Maxima of Netherlands Inés Zorreguieta has reportedly killed herself. The 33-year-old was a researcher at the United Nations in Panama. She was also a guitarist. The funeral will be held in Argentia and attended by close family members. The King of the Netherlands, Willem-Alexander, and Queen Máxima have already flown to Argentina.

Zorreguieta who was a bridesmaid at her sister's wedding to the Dutch Crown Prince Willem-Alexander in 2002 was also close to her. For the royal couple's youngest daughter, Princess Ariane she was a godmother. The 47-year-old Máxima, has two brothers, Martin and Juan, and three half sisters, Maria, Dolores and Ángeles. The royal household said that she was "very shocked and very sad" by the incident.

The Guardian quoted The Dutch prime minister, Mark Rutte as saying, "The sudden death of Queen Máxima's sister comes as a big shock. It is intensely sad and heartbreaking news that can hardly be comprehended for those who stay behind. With our hearts and our thoughts, we are with the queen and her family. I wish them all the strength necessary to carry this horrible loss together. And I trust that they will get the peace and space for that."

A Dutch government spokesperson said that Zorreguieta’s death appeared to have been suicide. Her father, Jorge Horacio Zorreguieta served as agriculture minister during Argentina's military dictatorship. He died last year in Buenos Aires at 89.
