Maha Ashtami also known as Durga Ashtami or Maha Durga Ashtami is celebrated today. It falls on the eight-day of Navrati festival during the Ashtami tithi of Ashwin month as per the Hindu calendar. Durga Ashtami witnesses large scale celebrations in various parts of the country. And as we celebrate Durga Ashtami 2019, people have taken to Twitter wishing each other Subho Durga Ashtami. The observance witnesses various traditions, rituals and customs performed on this day. In Kolkata, people perform Sandhi Puja on Durga Ashtami. It is believed to be the most auspicious time to conduct prayers during the entire day. In some regions, people also do balidan which means sacrifice. While animal sacrifices are done in a few places, people often ct vegetables like pumpkin or fruit to replicate the same. The ritual signifies getting rid of negative traits from oneself. Kumari Puja is another important ritual performed during Durga Ashtami where young girls are worshipped as a form of Maa Durga. We wish everyone celebrating 'Subho Durgashtami'.
