A Dubai man divorced his wife just 15 minutes after their marriage. The bridegroom had agreed to pay his father-in-law Dh100,000 (Rs 18 lakh) as bride price. However, the bride's father became impatient to get the money. Friends and family attended the wedding held at Sharia judge's office according to Islamic ceremonies.
The bridegroom handed over Dh50,000 (Rs 10 lakh) at the wedding and promised that the rest would be handed over as soon as the wedding party left the court building. However, the bride's father who has lost his patience by then demanded rest of the money also. The man insisted that the cash was in his car parked outside the building and would only take five minutes to bring it.
However, the bride's father insisted that he send a friend or relative to get the money from the car. The father-in-law did not want his son-in-law himself to fetch the cash. Vexed by his father-in-law's different demands, the bridegroom called off the marriage immediately, saying he felt "insulted and demeaned".
Gulf News quoted a lawyer handling the case as saying, "He told the bride’s father that he did not want his daughter as his wife and divorced her in less than 15 minutes from signing the marriage contract."
This isn't the first time a marriage lasted for such a short period. In 2012, a groom filed for divorce immediately after his marriage as the bride's father demanded that his daughter be let to keep her job.
