In a major embarrassing incident, the national anthem of Sri Lanka was cut-short by the official broadcasters, DSport channel, during the first Twenty20 International (T20I) between India and Sri Lanka in Nidahas Trophy 2018. The controversies around the tri-nation series have refused to douse down, as another controversy propped up during the match proceedings. In a rare occurrence, the national anthem was stopped in between on Live TV and there were advertisements shown.

The series opener saw India lock horns with Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium, in Colombo. The incident didn’t go well with the fans of both the nations, as they took to social media to venture their anger. We bring to you some of the reactions that were going viral on micro-blogging site Twitter:

1. The ugly incident didn't go down well with the sporting fan!

2. The episode was indeed shameful

3. Wasn't it a pathetic incident, for real?

4. People have no chill!

5. The cut-shorting of Sri Lankan anthem was actually insensitive.

Earlier, Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena declared a state of emergency in the country for a period of 10 days. There were speculations going around about the commencement of the tri-nation series. However, both Indian Cricket Board and Sri Lankan Cricket Board confirmed that the series will be played as per the schedule.

Nidahas Trophy 2018 will see India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka compete twice with each other in the tournament, with the top 2 teams qualifying for the Final of the tournament. However, we hope that such episode of cut-shorting the national anthem and broadcasting advertisements is not repeated in future and there should be immense respect for the national anthem, be it of any country.
