Karnataka chief minister B.S.Yediyurappa-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government on Wednesday imposed Section 144 across Bengaluru and other parts of the state as protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 or CAA and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) continue in the state capital.
The move by Karnataka government comes after Delhi and parts of North-Eastern states, especially Assam protested on the streets against CAA and NRC as they believe it differentiates people on the basis of religion and goes against the principles of the Indian constitution. The restrictions in Bengaluru came into effect on Thursday at 6 am and will be applicable till midnight of December 21.
